The anchor dining and entertainment district at The Battery Atlanta will have 10 bars, a mechanical bull and cuisine from celebrity chef Todd English.
On Monday, Atlanta Business Chronicle got an exclusive hard hat tour of Live! at The Battery Atlanta, a roughly 40,000-square-foot facility that will sit outside the entrance to the Atlanta Braves’ new home, SunTrust Park. It will employ nearly 400 people and is set to begin opening in April.
Live! is from The Cordish Cos., which currently operates six similar entertainment districts in cities including Baltimore, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Kansas City.
In Atlanta, Live! has a two-story building with ample patio space that spills out onto the plaza outside the ballpark.
“People are going to be pouring in from all angles,” said Ben Brengle, director of operations for Live! at The Battery Atlanta.
Inside are three concepts: Sports & Social, Todd English Tavern and PBR Atlanta. All are designed by Jeffrey Beers International.
Opening in April, Sports & Social is a casual sports venue that features a 40-foot, big-screen television and games such as ski ball, ping pong and shuffleboard. It will have large garage-style doors that open onto the patio.
“Sports & Social is the closest thing you can get to being in the stadium without buying a ticket,” Brengle said. “Pre-game, in-game and post-game activation to try to get it as close to the stadium feel as possible. Lots of energy.”
Opening in April, Todd English Tavern is an upscale tavern featuring the cuisine of English, who lived in Atlanta as a youth, going to The Galloway School. He’s since developed restaurants across the globe and has a cooking show called Food Trip with Todd English.
“I was raised in Atlanta from the time I was six until 16,” English said in an announcement, “and I’ve always wanted to open a restaurant here. I’ve been looking for the right place in my hometown for a long time … I think Atlantans will love this new tavern and feel right at home. We are going to bring them something they’ve never experienced before.”
Todd English Tavern will feature an open kitchen with a wood-fired grill that will raise and lower meats into the fire. It will also have a lounge area with a fireplace.
Upstairs at Live! is PBR Atlanta, a bar branded by the Professional Bull Riders. It will open in May. The country-themed bar and dance club will include a mechanical bull and banquet space for private events. It will feature dark wood and leather.
Live! also will have a “bridge bar” on its second level along the access bridge into the ballpark.
