Road to Roo: Atlanta City Finals: The Winner Is...
Sixteen Atlanta bands started on the Road to Roo to win a spot on state at the 2018 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. These bands performed around Atlanta at MadLife Stage & Studios and Smith’s Olde Bar to reach the Road to Roo Atlanta City Finals. The final bands that performed tonight at Sports & Social were Sunny South Blues Band, Chelsea Shag, The Howling Tongues and Camera Box. Sports & Social quartered off a section of the sports bar to transform it into a concert venue for the night. Friends, family and fans were joined by bar and dining patrons for the last stretch of the Atlanta Road to Roo competition. The performances by each of the bands were a step above their performances that I had seen in earlier rounds. The crowd was abuzz with excitement and anticipation with each of the bands and their fans huddled together awaiting the announcement of the winners.
The announcement of the Road to Roo Atlanta City Finals brought excitement for Camera Box and Chelsea Shag as the judges announced that they would be moving on the Georgia State Finals of the Road to Roo. Unfortunately, Camera Box’s Road to Roo hopes of performing on stage at Bonnaro came to a screeching halt when they learned in the days to after the announcement that they would not be moving on. In a moment reminiscent of Steve Harvey and the 2015 Miss Universe Contest and more recently the 89th Academy Awards show’s incorrect presentation of Best Picture, Camera Box learned that official contest rules allowed for only one band from Atlanta to move on to the final round. This music fan would have loved to see Chelsea Shag, Camera Box and two bands from Athens continue on the Road to Roo in the state final but hey, I’m just a music junkie wanting more!
On April 12th we will see Chelsea Shag on stage to represent Atlanta in the George Road to Roo Finals. Atlanta will be represented well by Chelsea Shag as she competes against the Athens Road to Roo City Finals winner, The Norm.
Just after the Road to Roo Atlanta City Finals Chelsea Shag dropped her official video for her single “Poise.” Take a listen to this energetic, funky and soulful track.
